MARÉ LAMA
Expanded poem | Mud and embroidery on mesh | 2019
Maré Lama is a poem-process made from words extracted from the testimonies of residents of Brumadinho and Mariana during the catastofre of the rupture of the ore extraction dams that buried part of the population and contaminated rivers and soil in the region. Its visual form arises from my encounter with the scraps and embroidery instruments gained from my aunt Suzana and from the sugar cane clay taken from my native land in Lagoa da Prata. Despite the outcome, the feelings that awaken this poem arise from many disasters, not only the environmental-violent-political ones that happened in our country, but also the contaminations, drownings and deforestations of the relationships. Love can also be violent. One turns and snatches that puts us in an area of discomfort as painful as every tree-oil-dam that covers itself.
