Silva

Izabela Silva (b. 1995, Lagoa da Prata, Brazil) is a filmmaker, editor, poet and researcher based between Barcelona and Belo Horizonte. She holds a BA in Cinema and Audiovisual from PUC Minas, a Master’s in Creative Documentaryfrom Pompeu Fabra University, and a Postgraduate degree in Film Post-Production Supervision from ESCAC. In 2018, she founded Abre Caminho Filmes, a production company dedicated to women-led and Ibero-American storytelling.
 

Her work moves between documentary cinema, poetry and essay film, often exploring memory, gender and visual anthropology. Izabela has collaborated on projects such as The Guardians of the Microcosmos (dir. Martin Schilt & Joris Van Alphen), Agnès Varda: On the Other Side of the Mirror (dir. Mercedes Álvarez, CCCB), and Carcereiras (Cannes Docs 2025). Her own films and video installations have been shown at the Ropewalk Museum (UK), Museu Tàpies (Barcelona) and Casa das Rosas (São Paulo).
 

She is currently in post-production with her debut feature I’m Not a Filmmaker—supported by the BH nas Telas, Lei Paulo Gustavo, and LABED-UPF/ICEC funds—and developing the feminist criticism platform Sara y Rosa, part of DocsBarcelona Talents 2024. Izabela also teaches and mentors in documentary direction and production at FX School of Cinema and PUC Minas.
