I am not filmmaker
Feature Film | Doc | Working in Progress
The discovery of a feminist and revolutionary film made in 1969, a period of repression and censorship during the Brazilian dictatorship, in Belo Horizonte, capital of the state of Minas Gerais, is the beginning of the journey that young filmmaker Izabela Silva undertakes to get closer to Rosa Maria Antuña, an 83-year-old woman who, despite being one of the first women in her country to direct a film, does not recognize herself as a filmmaker. Through the clues, the small fragments of history and the remnants of film that Antuña has kept for years in her own kitchen, Izabela faces the process of restoring her work and recovering the memories of a feminist cinema that has remained hidden for more than 50 years. In this process of safeguarding, a friendship arises between the two women. Despite the difference in times, the anxieties, fears and desires of women filmmakers can remain similar: it is not easy to assume oneself as a filmmaker.
